On March 28, 2016 the Terrell campus hosted the Carter Bloodcare Bus in the campus parking lot allowing anyone to give blood for the day. Carter Bloodcare is a community blood center that serves North, Central, and East Texas.
I spoke with a few students inside the bus who were waiting to give blood.
When I asked Jaye Williams what made her want to give blood she replied, “Why not? It’s for a good cause. I’m sure someone somewhere will need it.”
Jaye has donated before about four years ago, yet she said she was still a little nervous as she stood in line.
Haley Burke wanted to give blood to help save a life. A bonus for her would be that she would receive extra bonus points for one of her college classes.
It was Jaye’s first time giving blood and she expressed that she was quite nervous.
Genesis Carrillo has given blood three times, so she said she’s use to it and this doesn’t bother her.
“I feel great, like I did something good!”, said Genesis.
The phlebotomist, Virginia Delagarza, taking Genesis’ blood said this has been her full time career for the past six years. She gives blood herself every 56 days.
